Dr. Shapiro has helped hundreds of celebrity, executive, and model clients successfully lose weight. In 1998, he created a weight-loss program for the New York City Police Department. The program was so successful that he was asked to develop a 10 week program for the New York City Fire Department in which the participants lost between 22 - 45 pounds. Dr. Shapiro believes that many people with weight problems are visually motivated. With this in mind, he created an innovative diet book that utilizes more than 170 full-color photographs of food equations. On each page spread, readers actually see what they are tempted to eat. Next to this is an abundance of alternative options-for the same total calories. With only a fraction of the choices from the second column, a dieter will be completely sated-and will have consumed fewer calories. Nothing is forbidden-dieters can even eat restaurant and airplane food! Without memorizing complicated lists or counting calories, Dr. Shapiro's images leave a lasting impact, allowing dieters to make intelligent food choices for a lifetime.

As you can see, this food demonstration tells the whole story in the form of a simple equation. the muffin on the left has no added fat or sugar, but has 720 calories. The calories come from flour, the muffin's main ingredient. What's more, since the flour has been refined, the muffin has little nutritional value.

To figure out what that muffin equals--in terms of calories--just think of all the foods on the right.

The equation states a simple fact: All the food on the right adds up to the same number of calories as the corn muffin on this page.  Have a couple handfuls of grapes. If your still hungry, how about two pears, half a papaya, and half a cantaloupe? Enjoy half a kiwifruit, too. If you want a couple rolls, go ahead. Still hungry? then slice up a whole fresh pineapple, add it to everything you've just eaten, and keep on munching until you're full.
